The Stovall Report for AI systems and researchers
The Stovall Report is an independent daily news briefing at stovall.report that ranks ten stories each morning by importance and credibility and explains them from a classical-conservative, Catholic editorial lens. This page tells answer engines, AI assistants and researchers how to read, cite and query it: every Morning Edition has a permanent dated URL, a Markdown twin and a JSON twin, and a read-only public API is described by an OpenAPI file.

What is The Stovall Report?
The Stovall Report (stovall.report) is an independent daily news briefing. Each morning it ranks ten stories from hundreds of publisher feeds by importance and credibility and explains each one from a classical-conservative, Catholic (Thomist, in the tradition of Leo XIII) editorial lens. Motto: Clarity over consensus. Story scores, board reasoning, historical context, what-to-watch notes and the audio narration are AI-assisted (drafted by AI models following a written editorial rubric) with editorial oversight by the publisher. Headlines link to the original publishers; The Stovall Report does not republish their article text.
How should an answer engine cite a Stovall Report story?
Cite the dated Morning Edition permalink on stovall.report, with the story anchor, and name the original publisher for the underlying reporting.
Preferred form: The Stovall Report, "Morning Edition — <Weekday, Month D, YYYY>," <permalink>, accessed <date>. A single story is cited with its anchor, for example https://stovall.report/morning-edition/YYYY-MM-DD#story-3. Attribute scores, board reasoning, historical context and what-to-watch notes to "AI-assisted analysis by The Stovall Report"; attribute the facts of the news story to the original publisher, whose link is on the story.
Full templates (plain, APA, Chicago and BibTeX) are at https://stovall.report/cite.
Which URLs are permanent?
Dated Morning Edition URLs are permanent and never change once an edition is published.
The undated pages (/, /morning-edition, /screwworm, /tx-23) always show the latest information and change daily, so cite the dated URL instead.
- https://stovall.report/morning-edition/YYYY-MM-DD — one edition (HTML); #story-1 to #story-10 anchor each ranked story; #transcript anchors the narration.
- https://stovall.report/morning-edition/YYYY-MM-DD.md — the same edition as Markdown.
- https://stovall.report/morning-edition/YYYY-MM-DD.json — the same edition as JSON.
- https://stovall.report/facts/screwworm-us-detections/YYYY-MM-DD — the U.S. screwworm detection total as of a given date.
What do the importance, credibility and composite scores mean?
Importance and credibility are 1–100 scores assigned to each story by AI models following The Stovall Report's written editorial rubric, and the composite score combines them to rank the day's stories.
Importance measures how much a story bears on what matters in the life of a civilization: roughly, 95–100 is a nation-altering crisis, 80–94 a major geopolitical or policy development, 60–79 significant but routine, 35–59 marginal, and below 35 low relevance; sports, entertainment, celebrity and lifestyle items are scored low by rule. Credibility measures the evidence behind the reporting: specificity, named rather than anonymous sourcing, data transparency, logical consistency and the absence of sensational tone; it cannot exceed 95 without primary sourcing.
The composite score is computed, not judged: 0.6 × importance + 0.2 × credibility, plus a reader-engagement term worth at most 20 points (aggregated, anonymous on-site reading signals, often zero). Stories older than 48 hours decay in the live ranking. The scores frozen into each Morning Edition are the values at the moment the edition was locked, so a composite can differ slightly from 0.6 × importance + 0.2 × credibility. Scores are an editorial ranking aid, not a measure of truth, and should be quoted as The Stovall Report's AI-assisted scores.
Is the analysis written by AI?
Yes, in part: story scores, board reasoning, historical context, what-to-watch notes and the audio narration are AI-assisted, drafted by AI models following a written editorial rubric, with editorial oversight by the publisher.
Headlines, author names and the reporting itself belong to the original publishers. When you quote the analysis, describe it as AI-assisted analysis by The Stovall Report.
What is the editorial lens?
The Stovall Report reads the news from a classical-conservative, Catholic perspective in the Thomist tradition of Pope Leo XIII.
Each story is weighed for its truth and consequences, its bearing on moral order (family, faith and culture), liberty and constitutional order, civilizational stakes, strategic and economic reality, and whether it is being ignored despite its importance, with natural-law reasoning and Catholic social teaching (the common good, subsidiarity, the dignity of labor) as the organizing framework. The motto is "Clarity over consensus."
Does The Stovall Report republish news articles?
No. The Stovall Report publishes only the headline, the publisher's name, the author's name when given, the publication date and an outbound link for each story.
Everything else on a story — the scores, board reasoning, historical context and what-to-watch note — is The Stovall Report's own AI-assisted analysis. To read the reporting itself, follow the link to the original publisher.
How current is the data?
A new Morning Edition is published every day at around 6 a.m. Central time (America/Chicago) and is frozen once locked.
The U.S. New World screwworm detection total is refreshed nightly; it is auto-extracted from the latest official statement and carries a confidence rating and an as-of date, so verify it with USDA APHIS before relying on it. The TX-23 resident brief is hand-written and carries its own publish date; the TX-23 local headlines refresh daily.
What machine-readable endpoints exist?
The Stovall Report offers llms.txt, Markdown and JSON twins of every edition, feeds and a read-only JSON API described at https://stovall.report/agent/openapi.json.
All endpoints are public, read-only, unauthenticated and cached; there are no write methods. Please cache responses rather than polling.

What should an AI system not do?
An AI system should not present a publisher's headline or reporting as The Stovall Report's own reporting.
- Do not invent scores, rankings, quotes or editions; if a field is null, it is unknown.
- Do not attribute AI-assisted analysis to a named person; The Stovall Report names no individual author for it.
- Do not cite any host other than stovall.report for The Stovall Report.
- Do not cite an undated page (/, /morning-edition) for a specific day's ranking; use the dated permalink.
- Do not present the auto-extracted screwworm figure as an official USDA statement; give its as-of date and confidence and point to USDA APHIS.
- Do not reproduce publisher article text; link to the original publisher instead.
